ALADDIN COLLECTORS MANUAL #23 AT ALADDIN LAMP
SHOW & SALE
The Manual, revised since 2006,
will be available at the 45th Aladdin Gathering & Lamp Show
& Sale, August 11 & 12, Columbia, Missouri. Hot off the press!
The
world recognized Aladdin Collectors Manual & Price Guide is the
complete reference for collectors, dealers, and users of the famous Aladdin
kerosene lamps. The book is a "collectors manual" and a "guide to prices."
Highly illustrated, Manual #23 identifies and values kerosene Aladdin lamps
made from 1908 through 2015. Models of Aladdin kerosene mantle lamps are
illustrated for easy identification.
The
2017 edition has been updated with new information for collectors and changes
in trends of lamp values since PG #22 in 2006. The demand for rare lamps,
moonstone lamps and desirable colors of lamps is strong while demand for common
lamps is soft. Availability of lamps on auction websites such as eBay has
increased supply. The buyer, however, has a difficult task of evaluating
condition and important quality defects. More important are fakes and
reproductions where the bidder cannot closely inspect the lamp offered for
sale. These are discussed in PG #23.
Buyers
beware! Reproductions offered for sale cause alarm and collectors must know
and beware of new lamps, shades and accessories in the market. Information and
illustrations in Guide #23 tell how to identify reproduction lamps and
shades. This section will keep you from paying high prices for "new" lamps and
shades. Do not pay hundreds of dollars for a lamp that "looks old," costs less
than $50, and is worth even less to a collector.
Aladdin
lamp prices range from fifty dollars for common lamps to several thousand
dollars for collectible rare Aladdin lamps. The value reflects the current
emphasis on quality and rarity. The manual describes how to evaluate condition
that is critical to establish value. Original parts to repair and restore old
lamps are in strong demand.
The
Collectors Manual gives tips for collectors under the major headings - "How to
Determine The Collector Value of Aladdin Lamps", "Collecting Kerosene
Aladdins", "Using Wick Raiser Knobs to Identify Models", "Collecting Alacite",
"How to Light Your Aladdin", "Interchangeability of Aladdin Parts"
and "How To Tell New Lamps From Original Aladdins."
Manual
$23 is useful in combination with "Aladdin - The Magic Name in Lamps", the large
hardbound book revised and printed in 1997. Both books written by J. W.
Courter are available on the website www.aladdinknights.org.
Courter also publishes a newsletter - Mystic Light of the Aladdin Knights - for
Aladdin lamp collectors.

Antique Lamps To Light Louisville
Aladdin
lamps have provided light for over 100 years. Aladdin's light is 'magic' for
those who collect, light and use the lamps. The amazing
100-year-old technology still works today!
Coal-oil,
or kerosene lighting, is often 'mystic' to those who are too young to have
experienced the warm glow that illuminated homes in years past. Collectors restore and light the old lamps
that were essential for our parents and grandparents. Many young people today
are discovering the nostalgia and beauty that antique lighting add to their
home décor especially family heirloom lamps.
Aladdin
Knights, collectors who prize old lamps, will hold their annual Gathering
(convention) July 24-30, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel, Louisville, KY. The Gathering is sponsored by The National Association
of Aladdin Lamp Collectors (www.aladdincollectors.org).
Events begin Wednesday and conclude with Saturday banquet. More than 500 are
expected to attend. Many arrive early to room trade.
Jim
Wright and Bill Lohmeyer are the General Knights
(hosts) who plan and organize Gathering events. Calling themselves Aladdin
Knights, the group is America's largest club of antique lamp collectors. Knights collect Aladdin kerosene incandescent
lamps and Aladdin electric lamps as well as other brands.
All
lamp and lighting collecting clubs are invited: The Rushlight
Club (www.rushlight.org), oldest lighting club in America, who will hold their summer
meeting in Louisville; The Night Light Club (www.nightlightclub.org),
collectors of miniature lamps; International Coleman Collectors Club (www.intlccc.net); and The Historical Lighting
Society of Canada (www.historical-lighting.on.ca).
Collectors
and students of antique lighting study and learn history of lighting ranging
from rushlights and whale oil to discovery of new
fuels and technology in lamp improvements.
Gathering events include seminars, display room
of rare and unusual lamps, auction, raffle, banquet and the huge Lamp Show
& Sale. The 'Ladies of the Knights'
donate their time and talents to make a beautiful, handmade quilt that a lucky
member will win at the annual banquet.
The 27th Antique Lamp Show & Sale opens to
registered members on Friday at noon and to the public at 2:00 PM and Saturday.
World-class dealers will offer an immense variety of antique lighting and
accessories. Lamps of all kinds include
