Commemorative Finial History

In 1987, the first Aladdin Knights’ Genie Finial was introduced.  It was made exclusively by the Pairpoint Glass Company in Massachusetts.  It is a crystal leaded glass, made with the Genie’s outline raised on both sides in mirror image.  The mold was executed by Island Mould Co. in West Virginia.  The size of this finial is the same as the Millefleur finial.  There is no date on the finial because this would have required a different mold each year.  Pairpoint had 50 colors of glass to choose from so the Genie Finial could be offered for multiple years.

Four hundred clear crystal Genie Finials were made the first year so many members would have the opportunity to purchase one.  The finials were limited to one per knight.  The proceeds from the sales went toward some of the Gathering expenses.

The Genie Finial was first introduced at the Paducah, Kentucky Gathering when Bill and Treva Courter were the General Knights.  Other General Knights carried on this tradition for 17 years.

This information was found in the 1987 Mystic Lights.
